Inquiry day - res extensa
We would like to invite you to our second inquiry day. The day will deal with the theme of res extensa, that is to say the link between scientific practice and and the invention of materialism (REF-DC). This a core idea as it is by extending this concept of nature that the multiplication of the modes of existence is made possible.
Taking into account some of the feedback that we received on the first session in November, we will move ahead in two steps:
1. The morning session will be devoted to answering questions and clarifying certain issues from participants about the book as well as addressing issues of method and guiding principles in the inquiry that are of particular interest to young researchers. This will be accompanied by a short introduction that will prepare the audience for the questions that we’ll be dealing with in the afternoon session and make the stakes easier to understand.
- During the afternoon session, we will try to perform a simulation, using the documents produced by the students at SPEAP (Sciences Po Political Arts School) for the website currently under construction. Testing these documents will allow us to look for alternatives to the descriptions that presuppose, a priori, the existence of ‘res extensa’.
So as to better prepare the morning session, we would like for you to send questions that you would like to have answered. We recommend having read Chapter Four of Inquiry into the Modes of Existence before coming to the session.

12:15 p.m. – 1 p.m. A ‘problematised’ introduction to the day’s subject
2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Presentation and discussion about the research on design and art in the Salle Percheron, CEVIPOF, Sciences Po-Paris, 98 rue de l’Université, Paris (Métro Solférino, RER Orsay).
Free entry but limited places and reservation necessary.
